As the saying goes, “Let food be thy medicine, let medicine be thy food.” It has been proved right in many a case and since ancient time people have taken resort to food to treat, cure and heal various diseases. A severe inflammation of the intestinal tract can cause several diseases like ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease, with painful symptoms like severe diarrhea, fatigue, weakness and weight loss. Instead of popping pills, here are a few wonderfood that can reduce inflammation of the intestinal tract.

Wonder food that heal

There are several food which takes care of a chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. One needs to consume food that is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, polyphenols combines with adequate sleep, regular exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

Turmeric, which is considered to be a wonder herb and has been used since ages, especially in the Indian sub-continent consists of Curcumin, which is an active ingredient and plays a vital role in the reduction of inflammation of several type.

Coffee, has been used in a few countries since ages for the management of inflammation of the intestinal tract. People who have had coffee regularly especially black coffee had lower levels of amyloid, which is an inflammation marker.

Garlic, which is a very strong antioxidant also has polyphenols in abundance and is considered to be one of the potent anti-inflammatory herbs for curing chronic inflammation of the gut.

Virgin Olive Oil, is yet another gift from nature, considered to have worked wonders in healing chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract. The Oleocanthal in Olive oil does the wonder by reducing the inflammation.

Tomatoes, power packed with lycopene is a wonderful anti-inflammatory food. Tomatoes when cooked activates the lycopene content in tomatoes, thus works even better.

 

Foods to avoid

Food taken properly can act as a medicine, while unhealthy food can act as poison. Thus there are certain food that should be avoided while a person is suffering from chronic inflammation of the intestinal tract.

Refined sugar, should be avoided at all cost in the daily diet. Due to high-glycemic starch, the inflammation is aggravated along with other complications like redness, swelling and overheating.

Aerated drink, does more harm than good by further eroding the intestinal wall and causing more complications. Thus it is better to keep aerated drinks at bay.

Refined grains, have a very high glycemic index than unprocessed grains, thus it increases the inflammation in no time.
